Excavation Day 18: 09.07.10

Natalia here again. Everything has begun winding down on the excavation now with most work now being recording rather than digging. Today Michael and I finally finished the Structure E Hearth after Zoe from Bradford took samples of the red peat ash for archaeomagnetic dating which should give us some extremely accurate dates for that structure. We have only removed half of the depth of red ash in order to preserve it for another season should need arise for more testing. Most of the afternoon was spent maticulously recording the hearth and its contents through drawings and context sheets.

About thecairns

I am studying for my MA(hons) at Glasgow Uni and am setting up this blog as part of my undergraduate dissertation. This part of my dissertation focuses on how the project reaches out to the local community and general public at large and so any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
