Hi everyone. I’m a newbie to the blog today. I’m Carly, it’s my 2nd day on site and I’ve already endured many variations of weather. I’ve travelled all the way from Liverpool with my friend Victoria to be here where we both are currently doing our masters degree in Archaeology. Today has been a very busy day on site. A lot of the public heard about The Cairns Project on Orkney radio and we have been inundated with visitors, who have been very fascinated with what they have seen and also seem to be very enthusiast about what is happening here. The influx of visitors has also been a great help for Natalia’s dissertation! At the start of the day, Amanda and Martin found a very exciting find in structure C; a small copper alloy bowl. The top of the bowl seemed to be poorly preserved, but due to experienced excavators in Amanda and Martin we seem to have been able to get an amazing sample. It’s a very exciting find as it comes from a context full of metal objects, which makes us believe these deposits have been deliberately deposited. Today I’ve also been working in structure C. It’s a section of the structure which has produced lots of organic material mixed with pot sherds, stone tools and animal bone. We’re still digging down deep in the section, as it seems to be never ending, and hopefully we’ll reach the bottom soon. That’s it for now and we’re about to shut shop. I hope you find this a worth while blog. Bye for now!!
Sorry for the delay, the usb stick went missing!
